PDF Viewer Advice

It has come to our attention that version 9 of the Adobe Acrobat Reader can be slow to open large map files. This can be remedied in 2 ways:

1) Uninstall version 9 and replace it with version 8 which is available for download using the link below.

2) Keep version 9 but set it to open PDF maps in a separate window outside of the browser. To do this select and download a map. Wait for the map to appear (which may be 20 seconds or so) and then right mouse click on the map to display the context menu. Select Page Display Preferences. This will display the Preferences dialog. Select Internet as a category and under web browser options ensure that the "Display PDF in browser" option is switched off.

We will monitor the situation with regard to Acrobat Reader 9 and will advise here when a fix for this version becomes available.
